Tamil actor-director Balu Anand passes away

Tamil actor and director Balu Anand died following a massive heart attack in his house here today, family sources said.

Anand (62), who has acted in some 100 films and directed a few Tamil movies, complained of chest pain at his house in Kalampalayam and was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital.However, he died on the way, they said. Annanagar First street was on of his 1988 Tamil hits that starred Sathyaraj, Radha, Ambika, Janagaraj, Raghuvaran and Manorama.It aslo starred Prabu in a cameo apperance. This film was remake of Malayalam movie Gandhinagar 2nd street. This movie was the perfect mix of romance and comedy.

Another of his Tamil hits was ’Nane Raja Naane Mantri  that starred Vijayakanth, Radhika, Jeevitha and Goundamani in prominent roles. The music was composed by the famous Illaiyaraaja which was went on to be critically acclaimed. This movie was remade in Telugu as  Nene Raja Nene Mantri. He has also acted in hundreds of films, especially for his roles in films like ’Vanathaipola’ and ‘Unnai Ninaithu’.

He is survived by his wife, son and daughter, the sources said.
